RHS Alumni Scholarship

Topic: College and Future Plans

Essay topic: Please describe, in the space below, what your plans are for the future and how you plan to achieve them.

After approximately 15 years, I plan to be established as the head of a major environmental energy company either as the actual owner or heading the R&D (research and development) department, with the basics of the American Dream, a house to call my own, a decent yard to run around in, a car and possibly a kid or two in tow with a decent career of successes. While it is an understandably difficult task to develop such a position in a field so new at this time, that is also why I set my sights on this frontier of environmental energy, it is a field in its' infancy, there are discoveries to be made, ideas to be developed, everything is new and the field changes often.

How I plan to achieve this goal is that in the fall of 2011, I begin my studies in Environmental Sciences in the University of Wyoming, (or if finances prove capable, go into Environmental Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines). As I study, I'll try to get into a work study scholarship around my sophomore year of college so as to develop a stronger understanding of the process of setting up the various machines used to harness the environment, and look for the possible ways to enhance the machines by making them more efficient or combining harnessing capabilities.

The work study will enable me to get my foot in the door for a few companies in the field I have set my sights upon (companies such as GE). With this, I have a few companies to choose from to apply to for an entry-level or higher position within the company post-college graduation. After doing this, I will research, study, and experiment with mechanisms in order to further develop the company by maintaining a class or two involving their technologies along with other possible avenues of research that may aid the company on the manufacturing scale, possibly developing methods to make manufacturing their machines less costly, to make the job of setting the mechanisms up more easy, or even make the energy development that much stronger within the mechanisms.

As years pass, discoveries will be made, and I am fairly certain that I will be behind a few of them. I've designed ideas for mechanisms that could harness both wind and solar power, turn torrential rains into something legitimate for not only a small turbine but a greenhouse as well, amongst other things. Honestly, I believe I can accomplish becoming the head of a company involved in harnessing the elements, I think differently and I use that to my advantage, and I will use it to aid in the harnessing of our world around us, to develop the energy capable of helping advance our civilization.
